A Larne man had bail fixed for appeal after being jailed for eleven months on Thursday at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

Jason Black (24), of Glenfarne Place, had pleaded guilty in connection with benefit fraud which involved a sum of almost £5,000 despite working in Belfast.

He was also caught driving a BMW at 99mph in a 70mph zone on the A8.

He was on the road despite being a disqualified driver and was also uninsured.

Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said the defendant had an “extensive relevant record”.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said Black had a “very poor record” and had been given “umpteen chances” by the courts.

The defendant was also banned from driving for three years and fined £100.
