Woman (45) sustains cut to her face in Saturday night assault

Detectives in Coleraine are appealing for witnesses following an assault in the area of The Links in Portrush last night, Saturday 26 January.

It was reported that at around 11.30pm an altercation took place between a number of people in the area after they had got out of a taxi in the area.

A 45 year old female sustained a cut to her face after she was assaulted.

A 50 year old male is also reported to have been assaulted but did not sustain any injuries as a result.

A 27 year old female was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence and remains in police custody at this time, police said on Sunday morning.

A 25 year old male, also arrested at the scene, was released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Rachel Gardiner is appealing for anyone who was in the area of The Links last night and who witnessed an altercation or anyone who has any information that can assist with the investigation to contact Detectives in Coleraine on 101 quoting reference 1653 26/01/19. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.

  • Update: A 27 year old female was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence following an incident in the area of The Links in Portrush last night has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
