AT a selection convention in Ballymena, Sinn Féin has selected Patrice Hardy as a candidate for the Ballymena area on Mid and East Antrim Council in the upcoming Local Government election.

The party says the Bannside councillor will move areas in a bid to increase their representation across Ballymena and the wider area, joining Ian Friary (Bannside), Collette McAllister (Braid) and Councillor James McKeown (Coast Road) as candidates for Mid and East Antrim Council.

Speaking after the convention, Patrice Hardy said:“I am excited to have been selected pending Ard Chomhairle ratification as the Sinn Féin candidate for Ballymena in May’s election.

“I grew up in Cloney and with many friends and family around me, it has been a huge honour to represent the people of Bannside and I want to thank them for their support.

“I am looking forward to the challenges ahead as we bid to increase Sinn Féin representation across Mid and East Antrim.

“For many years this Council has seen a regressive and anti-equality agenda being pursued by the Unionist majority. With a strong Sinn Féin mandate, we can ensure Mid and East Antrim becomes inclusive and all communities are represented fairly.

“These are pivotal times in our political process.

“Brexit, the impact of Tory cuts and the DUP’s denial of rights are huge challenges. But I also see huge opportunities in terms of the growing demand for rights and equality.

“If elected, I look forward to the opportunity to continue this fight to deliver for all of the people of Mid and East Antrim, especially for those who continue to have rights denied.”
