A man accused of attempting to murder a woman on New Year’s Eve has been further remanded in prison.
Ian Ireland (59), whose address was given as Coleraine Road in Portstewart, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court on February 25 via video link from Maghaberry Jail.
The court heard the defendant could face an alternative charge.
A defence lawyer said he hoped the charge his client will eventually face will be known within the next month if police have submitted their file by that stage.
A detective constable told the court the defendant had made “full admissions” at an early stage.
The defence lawyer said the defendant had not accepted the attempted murder charge “but has accepted all the factual matrix”.
The court heard a psychiatric report has been compiled on the defendant.
The case has been adjourned to March 25.
