A Ballymena man has appeared at court in the town charged with possessing an imitation firearm and possession of Class C Diazepam.

Christopher McCosh (35), whose address was given as Dunclug Gardens, is alleged to have committed offences in July last year.

The case was mentioned at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday and adjourned to March 28.

Last July a police helicopter using a searchlight was bought in as the PSNI responded to reports of a man carrying a suspected firearm in the Dunvale area of Ballymena.

A police statement at the time said: “Following a search of a property in the area a suspected BB gun was recovered by police.”
