A woman caught driving a Honda Civic without MOT at Ballymena’s Larne Road Link had only bought the car and intended to get it repaired and to the test centre but she had moved house and that was taking priority, the local court heard.

Melanie McCleary (30), whose address was given as Drumtara in the town, had the offence detected on January 3 this year.

Her provisional licence had also expired in 2016, Ballymena Magistrates Court was told on March 7.

The defendant was given three penalty points and fined £200.
