A man who stole armoured electrical cables worth £2,700 from the Ballymoney area has had sentencing adjourned to April for a pre-sentence report.

Martin Gerard Maughan (44), previously with an address at Forest Street but now listed as Clonard Gardens in Belfast, took the items from the Bendooragh Road area on August 5 in 2016.

The business owner had CCTV which showed two people entering a yard in a Ford Transit and loading cable into the back of the van.

The defendant was at Coleraine Magistrates Court on March 11 where defence barrister Francis Rafferty said that since the offence Maughan had spent many periods in custody.

Mr Rafferty said Maughan wants to “return to England”.
