A new ultra-modern Simon Community hostel in Ballymena will house up to twenty residents at a time, it can be revealed.

The homeless charity confirmed their new facility in the town will be at the corner of Demesne Avenue and Trostan Avenue.

They said they do not own the building and therefore were unable to say how much the building cost to build.

A Simon Community spokesman told ‘Ballymena Daily’ today: “The charity is currently in the process of finalising the building transition and will announce opening dates once confirmed.”

The spokesman added: “The project will cater for up to 20 clients at a time”.

Meanwhile, the Simon Community building at Mill House in Ballymena is “now vacant,” the charity said in recent days.

Controversy had surrounded Mill House which is situated beside Harryville Bridge in Ballymena.

On Sunday night a man was stabbed in the back in that area.

The Simon Community said an altercation took place at flats adjacent to Mill House.

There have been a number of high profile incidents at Mill House in recent years leading to concerns being raised by members of the community.

Some local people fear problems potentially arising at the new property which is across the road from the Seven Towers Leisure Centre.
