’No need for speed’ is the main message as Road Safety Week commences

TODAY marks the beginning of Road Safety Week 2020 with speeding being the main focus of the week.

Mid & East Antrim Borough Council have been working in partnership with PSNI, NIFRS and Mid and East Antrim Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) to deliver key messages and the theme that there is ‘No Need to Speed’.

The Council have planned daily social media posts and videos for Road Safety Week which will remind road users to take responsibility when behind the wheel.

Chair of MEA PCSP, Councillor John McDermott, said: “Road Safety Week provides a unique opportunity, every year, to focus attention on how the safety of our roads impacts all our daily lives.

“Speed plays a part in every crash and just 1mph can mean the difference between life and death on the roads.

“This Road Safety Week we want to help everyone understand why speed matters and to join together to say there is ‘no need to speed’ on our roads.

“I would like to take this opportunity, as Road Safety Week commences, to praise the collaborative work between all the agencies involved in ensuring safety is maintained on our roads.

“Finally, in the run up to Christmas, I would encourage road users to take responsibility on our roads to ensure their own safety and the safety of others.”
