A TOUR of castles and gardens across County Antrim and Mid Ulster is being examined as one way of boosting tourism.
The move comes as Galgorm Castle Golf Club is getting worldwide television exposure by hosting the Irish Open golf tournament.
A report prepared for Antrim & Newtownabbey councillors said council officials there ‘are exploring the option to partner with Mid and East Antrim Council and Mid Ulster Council on a collaborative project for greater impact’.
It said common themes across the three Councils which could be considered were:
‘Castles and Gardens: A cross-Council trail and self-service itinerary of unique sites and attractions across the area under this theme’;
and ‘Living Loughs: The promotion of activities and experiences centred around Lough Neagh and Belfast Lough’.
