FORMER Northern Regional College student Holly Hume made a welcome return to Ballymena’s Farm Lodge campus to offer words of encouragement and advice to current Travel and Tourism students.

Holly, a native of the town, told students how undertaking Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism at the College had opened up a world of opportunities for her.

Having secured valuable work placements at Belfast International Airport and Galgorm Spa and Golf Resort during her time at the College, Holly encouraged the students to make the most of their placements and stressed that these helped her to make importance industry contacts.

Thanks to her drive, enthusiasm and commitment to her studies, Holly was selected to represent the College on a study visit to Vuselela VET College in South Africa as part of the British Council International Skills project team.

Holly completed her Level 3 extended diploma in June 2018 with an overall Distinction profile – the equivalent of three A grades at A-Level.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the College,” she said. “It was a fantastic steppingstone to university, and I couldn’t recommend it enough.”

Now a second-year undergraduate at Ulster University where she is now undertaking a degree in International Travel and Tourism Management, Holly has continued to impress.

She is a faculty representative for the Ulster Business School and was also included on the Dean’s List for Outstanding Academic Achievement.

Travel and Tourism lecturer at Northern Regional College, Karen McLeod, said Holly was an exemplary student:

“Holly’s work was always of a very high standard and her attendance and attitude to her studies throughout her two-year Travel and Tourism programme was excellent.

“Holly possesses remarkable ability, commitment and skill and I am delighted to see her continue to shine at Higher Education level. I wish her all the best for plenty more travel and tourism adventures and a wonderful career in the industry,” she said.

Throughout her course, Holly successfully completed highly commended Airline and Airport awards including certificates in Airline and Airport Customer Care and Airline and Airport Passenger Service Agent Skills.

Holly also enjoyed success in the globally renowned World Host qualifications including Principles of Customer Service, Ambassador Programme and Services across Cultures.
