Absence of sugar on shelves of a Ballymena supermarket leads to Brexit ‘stockpiling’ speculation

AN ABSENCE of sugar in a Ballymena supermarket on Wednesday night has led to speculation that people may be “stockpiling” ahead of a possible ‘No Deal Brexit’.

One shopper told ‘Ballymena Daily’: “There were two empty pallets sitting in the supermarket where it seems the sugar is normally kept.

“I don’t know if this was down to ‘panic-buying’ or people stockpiling for Brexit with essentials like sugar but that could be one explanation.

“It seems Brexit might mean people having to have a brew without sugar – at least for the time being.

“I was a bit disappointed but the lack of sugar might have a positive impact on the waist line. Brexit could be the new dieting sensation!”
