AS localised restrictions officially enter their third day in Ballymena 9 new covid cases have been reported in Mid & East Antrim.

7 new cases were recorded in the district the previous day.

There were two covid-linked deaths – in Newry Mourne & Down and the location of the other was given on the official statistics dashboard as ‘not known’.

There were 129 new cases reported across Northern Ireland in the last day, up from the previous daily figure of 79.

There have been 780 cases in Mid & East Antrim out of 20,890 people tested in the area since the pandemic started.

There have been 765 cases in Antrim & Newtownabbey – a rise of 12 since yesterday – and 450 – up 4 – in Causeway Coast & Glens.

The total number of cases in Northern Ireland since the pandemic began is 8,631.


Out of the 129 new cases in Northern Ireland in the last day, Belfast had 30 followed by Derry City & Strabane with 23 and then Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon with 14.

Lisburn & Castlereagh had 13 and Antrim & Newtownabbey had 12.

Mid & East Antrim had 9 and Newry, Mourne & Down had 7.

Mid Ulster and Ards & North Down each had 6.

Causeway Coast & Glens had 4, Fermanagh & Omagh had 3 and two cases were marked as ‘not known’.


The number of people who have died across Northern Ireland since the pandemic began, according to the Department of Health is 573.


In Mid & East Antrim, since the pandemic started, the number of people who died is 46 according to Department of Health statistics.

The Health Department says there have been 61 deaths in Antrim and Newtownabbey and 39 in Causeway Coast and Glens.
