THE format of one of the biggest band parades in Ballymena is being changed by the organisers this year because it clashes with the Champions League Final.
Liverpool meet Spurs in the big decider on Saturday June 1 which means the full Pride of the Maine parade has been “cancelled” but a few local bands are still due to walk the route starting at 6.30pm.
In a statement on social media the band said: “The officers and members of Pride of the Maine Flute Band would like to forward a statement to fellow bands and the general public!
“That the main parade on the 1st of June 2019 has been cancelled due to events out of the bands control! Pride of the Maine and a few local bands will parade the route at 6.30pm starting at Castle Street car park!
“Pride of the Maine’s 45th anniversary parade and competition will be as normal the 1st Saturday in June next year!
“This is a one off decision that the band felt they had to make and wasn’t took lightly! But we felt that the date would put visiting bands under a lot of pressure to try and attend!
“Also we always want to bring a great and enjoyable parade to the general public and felt this year would be disappointing for everyone due to the events taking place at the same time!
“Pride of the Maine thank everyone for their support on this. And will see everyone on the streets of Ulster as normal this season!”
