Ballymena Court hears man assaulted police officer whilst trying to ‘retrieve bicycle lights’

Ballymena Magistrates Court

A MAN who wanted to get into a room to “retrieve his bicycle lights” assaulted a police officer, Ballymena Magistrates Court was told.

Jose Pocarraro Sousa (38), of Greenmount Terrace, Ballymena, pushed a police officer on January 11 this year.

A prosecutor said around midnight police were called to an address following a report of a “male refusing to leave”.

The defendant agreed to leave but then tried to force his way back into the living room.

A defence solicitor said the defendant wanted to get bicycle lights and wished to apologise. He said it was a “minor” incident.

The lawyer said the defendant had drink taken at the time and is “very annoyed with himself” as he had been off alcohol for a number of years.

The defendant, who had a record, was ordered to do 80 hours of Community Service.
