Ballymena Court hears man is accused of possessing a candle ‘as an offensive weapon’

A MAN charged with possessing a candle as an offensive weapon with intent to commit grievous bodily harm has had his case mentioned at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

John Robinson Stokes (37), of Carneal Close, Larne, is also accused of assaulting a female occasioning her actual bodily harm; making a threat to kill her and possessing cannabis.

The charges relate to June 29 this year.

The defendant appeared at the court on Thursday, which was sitting in Antrim, via video link from Maghaberry Prison.

He was released on £500 bail with conditions that he is not to enter parts of Larne.

The case was adjourned to later this month.
