A MAN is accused of stealing 42 bottles of gin and rum along with crisps, soft drinks and kitchen roll with a total value of almost £1,000.

David Mawhinney (47), of Drumtara, Ballymena, is alleged to have committed theft at Supervalu in Kells on August 6 and August 7 this year.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court, defence barrister Thomas McKeever said the defendant is in custody “on other matters”. The matter was adjourned to mid-October.
