POLICE found a man with an open can of beer between his legs whilst he was “slumped over the wheel” of a vehicle parked at a filling station in the Ballymena area and a subsequent breath test showed he was more than three times the legal limit.
Steven McBride (47), of Dunminning Road, Glarryford, pleaded guilty to an ‘in charge’ offence relating to August 13 this year.
When the defendant was taken to Antrim Police Station he had an alcohol in breath reading of 116 – the legal limit is 35.
The court heard the defendant worked for the Rivers Agency but had been on sick leave.
The defence barrister was Stephen Law.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said it was a “very high reading” and noting a previous similar conviction the defendant was banned from driving for three years and fined £300.
