Ballymena Court is told woman is charged in relation to ‘poison pen’ incident

A WOMAN has been charged in relation to what a prosecutor at Ballymena Magistrates Court referred to as an alleged “poison pen” incident.

Deirdre Anne McKeown (53), of Ashbourne Manor, Ballymena, is accused of harassing a female between May 20 and June 9 this year.

The defendant is also accused of sending a letter in breach of a Restraining Order on May 20 and on the same date sending the female ‘an article which conveyed information which was false’.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday a police officer said he believed he could connect the defendant to the charges.

A prosecution lawyer, meanwhile, asked for a six week adjournment saying it was a “poison pen case and there is another more recent letter and I think it should all be dealt with on the one case as opposed to splitting it”.

She said a police officer was hoping to hear back from a “document examiner” and “thereafter it will probably have to go for fingerprinting and DNA”.

The case was adjourned to December 17.
