Ballymena Court: Man gets suspended jail sentence for benefit fraud

A MAN has been given a three months jail term, suspended for one year, for benefit fraud, Ballymena Magistrates Court was told.

The defendant had previously pleaded guilty to failing to declare he was working whilst continuing to receive employment and support allowance and housing benefit.

Stephen Aicken (35), with an address listed as Maine Valley, Glarryford, was charged in relation to dates in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court the defence solicitor was Sara Edge who said the amount of money involved has been repaid in full.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said the overpayment amounts involved were £1,778 Employment Support Allowance and £756 Housing Benefit.
