Ballymena Court: Police smell cannabis after visiting address to speak to man about prison release licence

POLICE smelt cannabis when they went to an address in relation to a prison release licence and found £10 worth of the drug in a tobacco pouch, Ballymena Magistrates Court heard today.

Ian Greer (35), with an address listed as Queen Street in Ballymena, had the possession of Class B drug offence detected on August 2 this year.

A defence lawyer said the defendant had been recalled to prison on foot of a release licence “for similar offending”.

He said a matter was before the Parole Commission and Greer was potentially facing a “lengthy period” behind bars on licence.

The lawyer said his client had a “significant drug addiction and drug history” and said the drugs were for “personal use”.

The defendant was fined £100.
