POLICE moved in to monitor a busy road in Ballymena town centre during this morning’s rush-hour following reports of motorists flouting bus lane regulations.

There have been claims on social media that schoolchildren being bussed to school were arriving late for classes because ordinary motorists were not keeping the bus lane clear at Waveney Road.

With the new school year only days old the police issued an update today on their local Facebook page.

The Waveney Road is on the approach to Ballymena Bus Station which sees thousands of pupils pass through on their way to lessons each week day.

The Police Mid & East Antrim Facebook page said: ‘Ballymena NPT (Neighbourhood Policing Team) officers were on Waveney Road this morning after recent reports of traffic issues at rush hour.

“We would like to remind drivers that the bus lane must be kept free from cars until the merging point near the Galgorm Road Junction between 8.15 – 9.15am.”
