A POPULAR event in the agricultural calendar that has been going on for well over 100 years in Ballycastle has been cancelled due to coronavirus fears.
A spokesperson for Ballycastle Horse Ploughing Society said on Saturday: “It’s with regret that the committee has made the decision to cancel this year’s horse ploughing match, due to ground conditions and Covid – 19.
“We’re disappointed as I know many of our regular visitors will be, but we’ll see you all in 2021!
Ballycastle has one of the oldest surviving annual Horse Ploughing and Heavy Horse Competitions in the whole of Ireland.
The competition takes place on St Patrick’s Day each year.
