Council needs your help to see Mid and East Antrim’s park crowned best in the UK

Carnfunnock Country Park and Larne Town Park have been nominated in the UK’s Best Park competition by green space charity, Fields in Trust.

Carnfunnok and Larne Town Park are two of 364 parks and green spaces listed with the public voting for their favourite park.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Maureen Morrow, said: “I am delighted that two parks within our borough are in the running for such a prestigious award.

“Carnfunnock is one of Northern Ireland’s best-known country parks. It attracts people from all over Northern Ireland and further afield. Onsite you will find a beautiful Maze, colourful gardens and woodland trails.

“There is also an activity centre, 9 hole golf course, a children’s play park and fun zone – making your visit to Carnfunnock enjoyable for the entire family. You can also stay and camp on site making it the ideal spot to set up base, while exploring the area.

“Larne Town Park also has a great offering for the people of Larne. With allotments, playgrounds, open space, dog walking and tennis courts all situated within the vicinity.

“Our parks and open spaces is essential for our citizens and visitors to enjoy downtime while also promoting a healthy lifestyle and I would encourage the people of Mid and East Antrim to cast their vote so both Carnfunnock and Larne Town Park can gain the recognition they deserve.”

“We know that they provide benefits to the physical health, mental wellbeing and community connections for people that use them, so we are delighted to see a record number of nominations for the UK’s Best Park award and it is encouraging to see so many people organising picnics with neighbours to celebrate how much they love their local park.
