Council says dog licensing has never been so easy

Finding out your Fido isn’t where he is supposed to be can be a scary thought but with the proper dog licensing that worry can be quickly quashed.

With the summer months rolling in and more dog walkers being out and about it is important to remember you must have your pooch with all their proper documents.

The steps are simple and can be done online but remember in order to licence your dog it must be micro-chipped.

To licence your dog you will need to create an account on the Council Direct website which has step by step instructions.

Deputy Mayor, Councillor Beth Adger, said: “As the weather heats up I am delighted to see more and more people with their dogs enjoying the stunning outdoors across our Borough.

“I would advise all dog owners to take this opportunity to ensure their dog is licensed to avoid being fined.

“Mid and East Antrim Borough Council are also part of the Green Dog Walkers scheme.

“This initiative, which encourages dog owners to clean up after their pet, has had a tremendous response to date in Mid and East Antrim.

“So why not do it all at the same time. License your dog and become a green dog walker and do your bit to keep our borough beautiful.”

For residents who previously used Carrickfergus Council’s online dog licensing system their login will still work.

Applicants who wish to apply for a concessionary licence will be required to provide evidence in relation to concessions e.g. birth certificate/pension book, proof of income support or housing benefit, or a letter from the vet stating your dog is neutered/sterilised.

Your dog licence cannot be issued without providing this proof and failure to do so may result in your licence being void and you may be liable to a maximum £80 fixed penalty.
