Court hears items allegedly stolen during burglary at house in Ballymena included a sword, baseball bat and a knuckle duster

A MAN is charged with a burglary and stealing a sword, baseball bat, knuckle duster, prescription medication and a grinder from a house at Tardree Grove in Ballymena.

Dean David Speirs (24), of High Street, Ballymena, is also accused of causing criminal damage to a living room window belonging to a man on the same date – October 5 last year.

The defendant appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court for a Preliminary Enquiry – the legal step to send a case to the Crown Court.

A prosecution lawyer submitted that on the basis of the papers before the court there was a case to answer and defence barrister Aaron Thompson had no contrary submissions.

The case was sent to Antrim Crown Court in October.

The defendant was given £500 bail to reside at High Street, Ballymena, and is not to enter Tardree Grove or contact a man.
