A ROMANIAN man said he had only been in Northern Ireland a few months and was unaware his son needed his own insurance to drive a Ford Mondeo he himself was insured for.

The details emerged at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday where Alexandru Purcica (43) and his son Cristian Purcica (21), of the same address – Fountain Place in Ballymena – were present.

The incident came to light at Ballymoney Road in the town on December 9 last year.

The court heard the family said they had only been in Ballymena since last September.

The men admitted using a vehicle without insurance and permitting no insurance and were each given six penalty points and a £250 fine.
