A ‘£7,500 refund’ has been given to Mid & East Antrim Council following the cancellation of a major international event in Cannes in the south of France due to the pandemic.
The Council had been due to attend ‘MIPIM Cannes 2020’ which describes itself as ‘the world’s leading property event’.
The issue of the refund was discussed at a behind-closed-doors section of a Council committee meeting.
Minutes of the meeting which are now in the public domain show councillors agreed to divert the ‘£7,500 refund from MIPIM Cannes 2020 to the ‘Renewed Ambition’ programme so that Mid and East Antrim can benefit from the promotional and research sponsorship activities and continue to promote the area’.
The next MIPIM event in Cannes is scheduled for next June.
Last year, a report prepared for councillors discussing attendance at the 2020 conference had said it would be an opportunity to meet with potential investors and to promote the borough’s investment opportunities internationally.
