A SECURITY guard chased a man who ran off through the car park of the Larne Road Link Tesco in Ballymena with a trolley which was around half full of food and toiletries, the value of which was unknown.
Francis McCallan (30), of Devenagh Way, Ballymena, was identified on CCTV in connection with the theft which happened on April 25 this year.
The incident has been mentioned at Ballymena Magistrates Court.
The court heard the defendant had a record.
Defence solicitor David McIlrath said the defendant would “very much welcome help from Probation”.
District Judge Nigel Broderick put the defendant on Probation for a year but told him: “This is your last chance with Probation.”
Although the value of the goods was unknown the defendant was ordered to pay £100 compensation to Tesco for the stolen items which had not been recovered.
