AMATEUR Dramatic Ad Hoc Theatre Group is bringing Brandon Thomas’ hilarious Victorian farce ‘Charley’s Aunt’ to the Braid Theatre, Ballymena, for this year’s Summer Theatre production.
Jack loves Kitty, Charley loves Amy, wealthy Aunt Lucia is about to visit and will serve as an appropriate chaperone. Her announced delay requires Lord Babberley to act as substitute. When Aunty arrives early chaos ensues.
Director Elza Margrain said she has enjoyed being involved in the production: “I’ve lost count of the many productions I’ve been involved with over the years for Ad Hoc, but I’ve really enjoyed directing this.
“The cast have been splendid, and it really is a big commitment for us all, but hopefully our work will be appreciated by our audiences.”
Elza added that she marvels at the dedication of those involved in amateur dramatics.
“For this production, we have students, builders, nurses all acting together in this outrageous farce. Backstage, we have retired teachers, a hospital porter, an engineer, for example, giving up their time for the love of the art of theatre.
“We also have our loyal audiences at Ballymena who appreciate the effort we all put in. Theatre is very much alive and well in Co Antrim.”
The performances will be at 7.30pm on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th September 2019. Tickets £8, with concessions £6.
Ad Hoc is a amateur dramatic company based in Ballymena. It has performed Judgement at Nuremberg for last year’s Holocaust Memorial Day and also a poetry event at the Seamus Heaney Homeplace in Bellaghy.
