SPECIALIST breathing apparatus and and suits were being worn as a search of a ‘Breaking Bad’-style suspected ‘meth lab’ continued in Ballymena on Wednesday, writes Nevin Farrell.
As our exclusive video and pictures show those carrying out the search at Ladysmith Terrace – a small residential street in the Harryville district – were taking no chances in regard to potential danger from chemicals.
And a special tent had been erected at the scene.
A PSNI spokesperson told ‘Ballymena Daily’: “Police are currently conducting a search at an address in the Ladysmith Terrace area of Ballymena following the discovery of a suspected drug manufacturing facility. There are no further details at this time.”
Specialist equipment was being worn at the scene of the search. Exclusive video (above).
On Monday, a man was remanded in custody in connection with the find.
He is charged with being concerned in the producing Class A drugs – methamphetamine.
He is also accused of being concerned in the supply of methamphetamine
At court police said a property had been “stacked to the rafters” with equipment and chemicals associated with a ‘meth lab’.
A police officer told Coleraine Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena on Monday, the chemicals were deemed so dangerous a specialist police team had to be called in.
Police first went to Ladysmith Terrace on Saturday and four days on they are still present at a property.
The whole issue of labs being set up to produce drugs has, in recent years, been brought into the public consciousness very much by the US TV show ‘Breaking Bad’.
