Detectives investigating the murder of German backpacker Inga Maria Hauser are to send a file to the Public Prosecution Service.

Police confirmed the move in a meeting on Monday with the Hauser family’s solicitor in Northern Ireland, the BBC has reported.

The body of 18-year-old Ms Hauser was found dumped in a remote part of Ballypatrick Forest, just outside Ballycastle, in 1988, two weeks after she was last seen alive on a ferry from Scotland.

Earlier this year, a 59-year-old was arrested on suspicion of the Munich teenager’s murder and later released on bail pending further inquiries.
