They received the call at 7.19pm on Monday and arrived at 7.23pm.
Two appliances were in attendance.
‘Ballymena Daily’ visited the scene around 9pm and all was quiet with the park locked up.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage was not immediately known.
The fire is believed to have occurred in an allotment type area at the park.
It is understood the ‘Base’ group – which helps people with learning disabilities – have a community garden at the park where they grow a range of fruit, vegetables and herbs.
Passer-by Damian McReynolds, who captured the fire on video, asked people to contact police with information.
It is not the first fire at the park.
Vandals set fire to a play area at People’s Park before.
The park is owned by Mid & East Antrim Borough Council who have been asked for a comment.
