Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has announced the reopening of its fitness suites and Classes from Friday 11 September.
The services will recommence at Amphitheatre Wellness Centre, Larne Leisure Centre and Seven Towers Leisure Centre next week with swimming facilities set to return in October.
A Council press release said: “To ensure the continued health safety of all our patrons and staff, a range of new arrangements and procedures have been put in place so everyone can train with confidence.
“These include the regular cleaning and sanitising of all equipment before and after each class or 45-minute gym session. Additional sanitising stations will also be provided throughout the centres and all patrons are asked to use these when entering and leaving the premises.
“For added peace of mind, all access to the Centres for gym use and classes MUST now be booked in advance. This can be arranged up to 7 days in advance and is applicable to both members and non-members,” the press release said.
Welcoming the announcement, Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Peter Johnston, said:
“This is another significant step forward for the Council and the borough as we continue our recovery strategy from the impact of COVID-19.
“Leisure Facilities play an enormous role in the physical and mental health of so many and while the experience will be slightly different, the co-operation of all our users with the new measures will ensure the health, safety and enjoyment for all.
“This is a very significant development for the borough and one that signifies a very welcome return to normality for us all.”
