Floodlit 3G pitch plan for Dunclug High School

Dunclug College.

A FLOODLIT 3G sports pitch could be on the way to Dunclug High School in Ballymena.

Minutes of a committee of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council revealed a report and site plans were shown to councillors.

The minutes say: ‘The report sought direction from Members in relation to an opportunity in terms of progressing a partnership approach with Dunclug High School and the Education Authority to provide a 3G pitch facility, with lighting, in the area.

‘Referring to the Report, the Director of Opeations drew Members’ attention to related costings, layout proposals and the potential for Sport NI-Your Club, Your Place funding.

‘During extensive discussion the Director answered Members’ questions and provided clarification in relation to 3G pitch provision across the Borough as well as access issues.

‘On the proposal of Ald Williams, seconded by Cllr Donnelly, it was recommended that Council.

* Support an initial application to Sport NI Your Club Your Place to secure the money for the floodlights through that scheme.

* Proceed in principle to progress a partnership approach with Dunclug High Schol and the Education Authority and

* Review the findings from the Dunfane consultation and consider further at the Ballymena DEA Capital Meeting’.

There was no discussion regarding the recommendations when the minutes of the committee were rubber-stamped at the public part of the main March meeting of the Council.
