16 new Covid cases were reported in Mid & East Antrim in the last day as a huge surge across Northern Ireland saw a record 934 new cases.

The 934 cases was up from 259 new cases in Northern Ireland in the previous 24 hours.

The overall number of cases in Northern Ireland is now 12,886.

There have been 882 cases in Mid & East Antrim out of 23,698 tests since the pandemic started.

The 16 new cases locally came from 222 tests.

The Mid & East Antrim figure is the lowest of any district in Northern Ireland.

There were 201 new cases in Derry City & Strabane council area in the last day; 191 in Belfast and 182 in Newry, Mourne & Down.

Mid Ulster district had 86 and Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon recorded 74 new cases.

 

Antrim & Newtownabbey had 51 new cases and Lisburn & Castlereagh had 44.

Ards & North Down had 30; Causeway Coast & Glens had 28, followed by Fermanagh & Omagh with 21.

Mid & East Antrim had 16 and the locations of 10 cases were listed as ‘not known’.

 

The number of people who have died across Northern Ireland since the pandemic began, according to the Department of Health, is 582.

 

The latest recorded covid-related death, in the last 24 hours, occurred in the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon area.
