Friday’s update: 42 new covid cases in Mid & East Antrim as Northern Ireland hits new record daily total

THERE were 42 new covid cases in Mid & East Antrim in the last day as Northern Ireland recorded a new record daily total of 1,299.

There were two covid-linked deaths registered in Northern Ireland in the last day – one in Belfast and one in the Derry City & Strabane council area.

The total number of cases in the Mid & East Antrim district since the start of the pandemic is now 1,167.

The 42 new covid cases in Mid & East Antrim came from 272 tests and the 1,167 number of cases is from 26,527 tests.

The number of covid cases across Northern Ireland since the pandemic started is 25,177.

Statistics now show a weekly breakdown of new cases by postcode areas – for example the BT42 and BT43 areas which take in the Ballymena district had 41 and 31 respectively in the last week.

The number of covid-related deaths across Northern Ireland since the pandemic began is now 608, according to the Department of Health.

According to Department of Health figures there have been 47 covid-linked deaths in Mid & East Antrim.
