MID & East Antrim Borough Council says they are continually monitoring how they provide waste services across the borough during the current Covid-19 pandemic.
Since the reopening of their Household Recycling Centres (HRCs) over the last number of weeks, they have noticed an increase in users at key times at some sites.
This has been highlighted at their Sullatober site in Carrickfergus where the laneway to the recycling centre is also shared with a number of businesses.
At peak times, staff have noted issues with vehicles accessing both the site and surrounding businesses and they want to work with those businesses to try and ease the traffic flow issues.
Therefore Mid & East Antrim Borough Council are introducing an appointment based system for the Sullatober HRC, on a trial basis, starting from Wednesday 17 June when access will be by appointment only.
It is hoped this will help reduce the waiting time for householders to recycle and dispose of waste at the site.
Bookings can be made from Monday 15 June by calling our Waste Helpdesk on Tel: 0300 124 5000 (option 0).
Sullatober HRC is open Monday – Saturday from 9am to 5pm.
The Council phone lines are open Monday – Friday from 9am to 5pm where residents will be provided with an appointment date and time during the call. Residents will need to provide their vehicle registration to book an appointment and photographic ID will be required to access the site.
A spokesperson said: “Council will continue to work the local businesses to find a longer term solution for our citizens and business customers.
“We thank people fir their patience and continued cooperation.”
For information on what you need to know before making a booking, and what items can be accepted on site, please check out the Household Recycling Centre webpage, located here: www.midandeastantrim.gov.uk/hrcbooking
The Council are also reminding site users to ensure social distancing measures are adhered to, you will be required to unload your own waste. Please also remember to bring ID ready for verification.
Normal restrictions still apply, no commercial or construction demolition waste, for details and exemptions, please check out the Exemptions webpage, located here: www.midandeastantrim.gov.uk/ThingsYouCantRecycle
Alternatively, if you would prefer not to book an appointment, please note that there is free access to other household recycling centres across the borough, located at Waveney Road, Ballymena, Redlands in Larne, Glenarm and Larne South, Islandmagee. An appointment is not needed at these sites.
