Issue of parking for residents living in Ballymena town centre is raised by councillor

THE issue of parking for people living in Ballymena town centre has been raised by Councillor Eugene Reid.

In a tabled question at a meeting of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council, the councillor said: “In light of the need for town centre revitalisation and the ongoing development of apartments in Ballymena, can the Council please clarify the position with respect to town centre residents and those acquiring properties within the town centre of Ballymena utilising currently available town centre, Council-owned, car parks?”

He received the following answer from the Council: “Residents living within the Ballymena town centre can avail, free of charge, of Council operated charged car parks between 18.30 and 08.30 Monday to Saturday and all day Sunday.

“Outside of these free to use times, residents can also avail of quarterly season tickets which provide a discounted rate on daily parking.

“Within the Ballymena town centre core there are currently three free car parks: Mount Street 1, Mount Street 2, Summerfield Street 2 (adjacent to Academy House).

“Residents would also be able to use free Council owned parking facilities at the Leisure Centre and Ballymena Showgrounds which would be within a 5-10 minute walk of the town centre.

“On-street car parking would also be available to residents outside the normal hours of operation”.
