Judge tells ‘nervous’ man at Ballymena Court: ‘Don’t worry I’m not going to bite’

POLICE spotted a Nissan vehicle driving erratically at Wellington Street in Ballymena and a man has admitted being at the wheel with excess alcohol in blood.

Jerome Higgins (35), of Crommelin Hill, Newtowncrommelin, also had cannabis in his possession on June 10 this year.

The defendant told Ballymena Magistrates Court he was nervous at being there and the judge said: “Don’t worry, I’m not going to bite”.

The defendant had an alcohol in blood reading of 132 – the legal limit is 80.

The defendant told the court “everything was sort of getting on top of me” on the date in question and said that when covid came his work was “just cut”.

The defendant was banned from driving for 16 months and fined £275.
