Judge’s warning after ‘R’ driver detected doing 91mph and 75mph within months of passing test

A JUDGE has warned R drivers that doing high speeds is dangerous because of their inexperience behind the wheel.

District Judge Nigel Broderick was speaking at Antrim Magistrates Court where Robert Curry (25), admitted exceeding his 45mph restricted limit.

A prosecutor said the defendant was in an Audi A3 doing over 75mph on the M2 motorway at Rathbeg near Antrim on July 30 this year.

The defendant had passed his test in February this year.

The court heard the defendant had also been detected doing 92mph in April in a case dealt with at Newry Court.

The defendant told Antrim Magistrates Court the speeding was “pure stupidity” and he apologised.

For the Antrim offence the defendant, of Riley Park, Banbridge, was banned from the roads for a month and fined £100.
