KITTY Neeson, mother of actor Liam Neeson, has died.

She passed away on Saturday.

At Mass at All Saints Church in Ballymena on Saturday, reference was made to her passing.

Due to the coronavirus the Masses are live-streamed on Facebook.

Parish Priest, Monsignor Paddy Delargy, said at the Mass: “We pray for those that died recently….and Kitty Neeson. Her funeral arrangements will be later.”

It is understood Kitty Neeson was in her 90s.

She had lived in Ballymena’s Broughshane Road area for many years.

Mrs Neeson’s death occurred the day before Liam’s 68th birthday.

DUP MP for north Antrim, Ian Paisley, extended his sympathy.

He said: “I was saddened to hear about the passing of Liam Neeson’s mother.

“I had the pleasure of meeting Kitty many times and when Liam was awarded ‘Freeman of Ballymena’.

“I’d like to express my condolences to Liam and the rest of the family circle at this sad time.

“My thoughts and prayers are with them at this time”.

The Mayor of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council, Cllr Peter Johnston, said: “Very sorry to hear this news. As Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, I will be raising this at full council on Tuesday where we will be holding a minute’s silence. Rest in Peace, Kitty.”

Liam Neeson is a ‘Freeman’ of the Borough.

Hundreds of tributes are being paid online to Mrs Neeson.

Many people remember her working as a dinner lady at St Louis School in Ballymena.
