A MAN has been charged with a spate of thefts of alcohol – mostly whiskey – valued around £800 over a period of about six weeks from Sainsbury’s in Ballymena.

He is named on the charge sheet as Aurel Dulghery (52), whose address was given as no fixed abode in Ballymena.

He faces 17 counts of theft spanning the period from August 26 to October 9 this year.

Items he is accused of taking included C&G Whiskey; Jack Daniels; Famous Grouse; Woodford Reserve Whiskey; Napolean Brandy; Lambrini … and a pasty.

The matter was mentioned at Ballymena Magistrates Court, sitting in Antrim, on Thursday.

A defence barrister asked for a Romanian interpreter to be booked for the next court date when he said he was “hopeful of resolving” the case.

The case has been adjourned to later this month.
