Man is jailed for two months for drugs offences and damaging door at Lighthouse hostel in Ballymena

A MAN has been given a two months jail term for possessing cocaine, cannabis, zopiclone and pregablin and damaging a door at the Lighthouse hostel in Ballymena.

Rauri Doey (23), with addresses listed on various charge sheets as Portstewart, Coleraine and Linenhall Street in Ballymena, was detected with drugs on May 31 this year in the Portstewart area.

The court heard he was also caught with drugs on February 8 this year when he also caused over £500 worth of damage to a door at the Lighthouse hostel in Ballymena.

The defendant pleaded guilty to possessing drugs and criminal damage.

Defence solicitor Garrett Greene told Coleraine Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena on Monday, the defendant had long-standing difficulties regarding his “mental health”.

He said the defendant had been released on bail five times this year and has also served several months in prison.

The lawyer said Doey had been “struggling in the community” as hostel accommodation was unsuitable for him and the defendant had then taken the view to stay in custody on remand.
