THE Mayor of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council has described as “phenomenal” the submission of over 800 nominations for Certificates of Recognition in relation to voluntary work carried out during the pandemic.

Mayor, Councillor Peter Johnston, told the main monthly meeting in The Braid Ballymena Town Hall on Monday night there had been 858 names put forward.

He said this month marked the end of his Certificate of Recognition scheme.

With the scheme coming to an end he said he had dedicated his entire monthly video review to all those who were nominated as well as individuals, businesses, charities and others including council staff who had worked for the community throughout the pandemic.

The Mayor said: “Meeting all the volunteers and hearing the stories of all our local heroes has been a huge privilege and a truly humbling experience that genuinely will live for me for the rest of my life”.

He wished to thank councillors for all their nominations and also wished to thank all volunteers.

Referring to the video he said he had felt it appropriate to mark “all of those who had contributed throughout this pandemic”.
