Mayor reminds public of health advice not to go ‘trick or treating’ this Halloween because of the covid pandemic

SPOOKED ... The Mayor has repeated the message from health chiefs advising people not to go trick-or-treating around the doors this year.

THE Mayor of Mid & East Antrim has reminded the public of the message from health chiefs for children not to go ‘trick or treating’ around the doors this Halloween because of the covid pandemic.

Councillor Peter Johnston told ‘Ballymena Daily’: “The Public Health Agency has advised against bobbing for apples, or kids going door to door to trick or treat within the community.

“We all want to have a fun Halloween but also a safe Halloween so I would urge everyone to stick to the guidelines that are in place across Northern Ireland.”

With Halloween only a matter of days away, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is appealing to everyone to be cautious in their celebrations to ensure all Covid-19 guidelines are adhered to.

All this week, Council has a jam-packed schedule of virtual events that everyone can join in with and have lots of fun at home as a family.

From mask making, spooky sensory play and terrifying tales from the Mayor himself, there is something for everyone.

The Mayor is encouraging everyone to adapt their traditional festivities in light of the recent tightening of Covid-19 restrictions which prohibit social gatherings.

He added: “Halloween celebrations will be very different for all of this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have lots of fun at home with our family.

“Council has planned a whole week of virtual events and I, like many, will be logging on to enjoy them.

“The Public Health Agency has advised against bobbing for apples, or kids going door to door to trick or treat within the community.

“We all want to have a fun Halloween but also a safe Halloween so I would urge everyone to stick to the guidelines that are in place across Northern Ireland.”
