MLA wants it to be full steam ahead for Dunloy train halt

NORTH Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Philip McGuigan has called for a train halt to be developed at Dunloy.

Mr. McGuigan said: “The issue of a train stop isn’t going away. I am continually being asked about it and I am continually raising the issue at Stormont so I am glad that in my recent correspondence with the Minister she hasn’t ruled it out.

“If we want to get as many people using public transport then we need to make it assessable.

“There was a previous stop in Dunloy in the past and I believe it would be well received and well used by the people of this region if it was brought back.

“There are lots of students and people travelling to work in Belfast from Loughgiel, Cloughmills, Dunloy and Rasharkin that are currently having to drive back on themselves to get the train in Ballymoney or have to drive to Ballymena so a train stopping in Dunloy would be much handier.

“The Minister’s department is currently developing a regional transport network plan and when published this will allow the local community to feed in their thoughts on a Dunloy halt.”
