Motorist who was more than three times the drink drive limit is banned from driving for five years

Ballymena Court

A MAN detected more than three times the drink drive limit has been banned from driving for five years and fined £400 as he had a similar conviction four years ago.

Manus Edward Brolly (40), with an address at Main Street in Portrush, admitted driving with excess alcohol in the area of the ‘Supervalu’ in Ballymoney in relation to September 27 this year.

The defendant had a preliminary breath test of 131 and the evidential test was 113 – the legal limit is 35.

At Coleraine Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena on November 2, defence solicitor Derwin Harvey said when the defendant’s “mental health deteriorates everything really goes by the wayside”.

He said the defendant had phoned the police “for assistance” prior to the incident and “started drinking and foolishly got into the vehicle”.
