Murder accused has shoplifting matter mentioned at Ballymena Magistrates Court

A MAN accused of murdering Ballymena B&B owner Inayat Shah has had another case – alleged shoplifting offences – further adjourned.

Michael Lenaghan (52), who had lived at Mr Shah’s Traveller’s Rest at Galgorm Road, is accused of four counts of theft relating to February 13 this year.

He is charged with stealing a grooming set, three bottles of perfume, assorted goods, clothing and Dettol wipes in Ballymena.

The wipes were worth £2 and were allegedly taken from Poundland.

The other alleged thefts happened at Boots, Primark and B&M.

The case was first mentioned at Ballymena Magistrates Court earlier this year.

Subsequently, in March, the defendant was remanded in custody after being charged with murdering Mr Shah (67), who died after being stabbed at Galgorm Road.

The shoplifting charges case was mentioned again at Ballymena Court this week and was adjourned to September 24.
