A NEW Alliance councillor told a meeting in Ballymena this week: “As a councillor I want to represent every citizen of Braid no matter their age, gender, social status, skin colour, religion, nationality, sexuality”.
Councillor David Reid – a new councillor for the Braid electoral area – was speaking at his first full monthly meeting at The Braid Town Hall.
He said he looked forward to working with his fellow public representatives to “make Braid a better place”.
DUP Mayor, Councillor Peter Johnston, told the councillor: “You are very welcome and we look forward to working with you”.
Councillor Reid thanked the Mayor for the kind welcome.
Councillor Reid wished to pay tribute to his predecessor Muriel Burnside who recently retired from the role. He was co-opted onto the Council by his party as her replacement.
He said it was a “pleasure and honour” to be co-opted as a councillor for the Braid electoral area which he said was home to “great people”.
